Witcher 3 Switch Update Adds Cross-Save Functionality with PC Version

You will now be able to transfer saves from The Witcher 3 Switch version to the PC version with the newly implemented Update 3.6.

Update 3.6 is now available for The Witcher 3 Switch version, adding a slew of features to the Nintendo port. Most notably, it adds cross-save functionality with the GOG and Steam versions of the critically acclaimed open-world RPG.

Besides the cross-save functionality, it will also include touch control support, more graphical settings, and much more. Here is the full list of changes, as provided from the official update notes:

  • Added touch control support.

  • Added save file integration with GOG and Steam versions of the game for Switch from different regions.

  • Added more text languages (in selected regions).

  • Added more graphical options.

  • Added multiple performance optimizations.

  • Fixed various visual and functional bugs.

  • Various gameplay and crash fixes.

There are a few important notes you should know if you are transferring saves from PC to Switch, and vice versa. Any mod-related bug and blocker may be transferred if your PC game save was made with a modded version of the game. Also, if you change the save file name on PC, the Switch’s cloud save feature will not be able to recognize it.

Personally, I think this is really great. While The Witcher 3 Switch port offers both a portable and TV experience, it doesn’t present the same quality the PC version has the potential to showcase. The ability to bring your PC save on the go is great for people who want the most technically sound experience, but still want to play portably. Adding more text languages and graphical options, as well as optimizing the Switch versions performance are also good incentives to revisit Geralt’s wild world.

If you want to see what we thought of The Witcher 3 Switch port, you can check out our take where Tomas Franzese said, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still a phenomenal game, and it’s impressive that this port can run on Switch at all.”
